New building

After renovation of the interior in 2004 and the structures of the Chapel in 2008-2009 (a public utility foundation which manages the operational side and a public limited company with a social objective which owns the property in Waterloo), the Music Chapel is currently drawing up a large-scale infrastructure development project. ThisNew Building project is based on:

  • Expanding residential accommodation for performers, which has been the project’s aim since 1939.
  • Expanding the teaching areas.
  • Creating a new broadcasting and recording studio able to accommodate up to 150 performers.

The aim of this project is to double the Chapel’s reception capacity.  (1 800 m2->3 600 m2). The initial budgetary estimate for this project is approx. € 5 to 6 million excluding tax. Up till now, € 2 million has been funded. The project should be finished by summer 2014.

The construction project should be completed after ten years of intense renovation of the Chapel and provide the institution with best conditions to reach its objectives.

Due to the expansion of its artistic and cultural activities since its program was recast in 2004, the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel is launching a construction project on its site. The challenge for 2014 is to develop facilities, essential to the booming artistic and cultural program, with the construction of new housing, music studios and reception areas.

To turn this dream to reality, support from private and public partners is of the utmost importance for this project, which is 80% privately funded. Join us and write this new page in the history of the Music Chapel.

The aim: to be able to meet the needs of the Music Chapel’s activities whilerespecting the intimacy of the site.

  • Improving, increasing and modernizing the housing capacity for soloists in residence have become vital steps for hosting up to 60 young musicians in residence under optimal conditions; the project targets 20 additional residential studios.
  • Developing the artistic curriculum likewise requires additional space: a 160 m² studio and two studios of about 50 m² each, to absorb the growing number of coaching and coaching hours.

The total budget of this project (estimated at €8 million) is to be financed by own funds. The financial aim would be to create an endowment fund amounting to the total investment in facilities so as to secure operation partly in the long term through revenues from said fund.
